0x80004005: Unspecified error after sync

An 0x80004005:: Unspecified error indicated WDS is not able to access the Outlook objects.  This can be due to a user permission or Outlook installation error, but more likely is a result of an Anti-Spyware or Firewall.

Users of
Microsoft Security Essentials should add PISync.exe to the process exclusion list:

Open MS Essentials (these instructions were done in Windows 7, but should apply to MSE in other Windows versions)

  • Open Microsoft Security Essentials
  • Select Settings
  • Select Files and Locations
  • Select Browse
  • Browse to - Program Files>WebISSync
  • Select PISync - the application
  • Enter PISync in the Process Exclusion list.
  • Save

If that does not help a reinstall of Outlook may help. It is also important to make sure you are using Outlook 2007 and above. WDS 1.1 and above will not work with Outlook 2003 or below.
