There are a couple reasons why the Journal option won't show up in ActiveSync. One could be permissions if for some reason you don't have permissions to register ActiveSync COM objects. Why that would be would depend on an admin or other source, so I couldn't help you with that one.
Another would be if some of the libraries the Journal Sync needed didn't exist. Now we've tested on Windows 2000 through Vista and we haven't seen any issues, but with how varied Windows can be setup you never know.
So lets go by a few steps:
1) Go to the Journal Sync install folder and look for: DeskJSync.dll
2) If it does not exist - let us know.
3) If it does exist (it should), go to the command line and go to the same path as the install folder. Then type in: Regsvr32 DeskJSync.dll
Do you get any errors? If not, restart ActiveSync and see if it shows up. If it doesn't: Run regedit.exe (The usual registry editing warning applies) and navigate to the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\Partners
If you extend the tree out on the left-hand pane, you'll see subkeys that have unique device relationship IDs. Expand that subkey out to:
Services\Synchronization\Objects\
ow you should see a list of sync conduits as subkeys. These include "Favorite", "File", "Media", etc.. You should also see a subkey for JournalSync. Get us an export of that if its there. If its not there - that's also important to know and probably means you have a permissions issue.
